(MR. MUSA JOOF – TARANGA CULTURAL GROUP – THE MBORODIS: A short history about how I started and what really inspired me to become a Zimba. Historically I inherited it from my parents who also inherited it from their grand parents, and the chain flows. Once lived my great-grandfather who was a hunter. One day as he was hunting, he came across a lion. Facing the lion and realizing the consequences of shooting a lion, he decided to do certain spiritual means without running away. So the lion was very vex and scary, but as a result of the spiritual means my grandfather was doing at that spot, the lion was cool down and finally knelt before him. And that was the time when he came near the kneeling lion and smoothly put his hand on the lion and created a song for it. That is how the history of Zimba, all came about. And that is exactly why Zimbas resemble a lion and other scarry animals in the bush…)

(The JUFFUREH BAND OF THE GAMBIA, from Sukuta, is named after KUNTA KINTE’s village Juffureh in the Gambia / West-Africa. The band was formed in 1986 in Sukuta and later in the 1990s lead by MAMINA JARJU, who remains to be one of the highest-rated talented musician in Sukuta’s musical history and who is known as the best Gambian Afromanding rhythm player…)

(MR. AZIZ KUYATEH ist nicht nur Musiker, sondern auch Poet. – Griot nennt man das in Gambia, Westafrika. Er stammt aus einer traditionellen Griot-Familie, wie schon sein Nachname verrät. Griots sind die Bewahrer der Geschichte. In Afrika sagt man: Wenn ein Griot stirbt, stirbt ein Teil der Geschichte. In ihren Liedern werden die wichtigsten Ereignisse des Landes an die nachfolgenden Generationen weiter gegeben…)
